Meet our furry, four-legged co-worker, Lola Bunny.

The Senior Care Experts at Ecumenical Retirement Community

My name is Lola Bunny, named after the Looney Toons character. I am a Flemish Giant Hare. I am three years old and weigh about 20 lbs. I am larger than the pet rabbits people are used to seeing. When I first arrived to campus, my standard rabbit cage was a bit too small so one of my co-workers on the maintenance team built me my own custom rabbit cage. It’s big enough for me to have my little house and blanket and hop around in. I love it!

I don’t know my exact birthday so we celebrate every year on Easter since that’s when I started working at Ecumenical Retirement Community in 2023. I have been working here for one year as a haregiver in our Connections Memory Support Services neighborhood in Building 1. Every quarter I travel between Building 1 and the Connections Memory Support Services neighborhood in Building 3. I love being able to see new places and new faces. Especially since new faces always want to give me more treats!

I eat rabbit pellets and timothy hay as my primary diet. However, I get lots of bunny treats, fresh vegetables from the hydroponic garden in Building 3 and the residents often bring me carrots from their dinner. A few of the residents help take care of me by keeping my water and food bowl filled. My fellow co-workers take turns keeping my home squeaky clean and my hair brushed and soft.

My favorite part of working for Ecumenical is all the treats, love and pets I get from the residents, co-workers and visiting families. I love getting to visit with everyone and hop around. I am a working rabbit that loves her job!

And the best part is I live where I work with all the wonderful residents that come see me every day. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

You’re so adorable Lola. I met you last year when I visited my mom Doris Mercier. I’ll see you again in May when I visit.
