The Story of a Leader

This animated short film is handcrafted as their legacy itself and entitled, The Story of a Leader, for both the person and the purpose. We hope you enjoy it.

The legacy of former Pennsylvania Governor George and Mary Jane Leader — co-founders of Country Meadows Retirement Communities, Ecumenical Retirement Community and Providence Place Senior Living — is about caring for others, challenging the status quo, showing compassion to those in need and giving everyone a seat at the table. The Leader family continues to carry on that mission today of serving others with meaning and purpose, always leading with heart and innovation.

Over the years, 14 members of their family have worked in the company. Their son, Michael, joined in 1973 and helped grow the business for over 45 years. Today, their granddaughter, Meredith Mills, who joined the business in time to gain real insight from her grandparents, serves as President and CEO and is honored to continue their legacy of leadership.

Now in the 3rd generation of leadership, the family wants to ensure new co-workers and residents know the story of their family’s values, how their family business is different and why that matters. And who better to tell a story than an artist.

The family worked with the artist, Iris Moore, who creates stop motion animation by hand with watercolor paint and paper. She tells beautiful stories honoring life and reflection, and the family thought Iris may just be the right storyteller to honor the impact George, Mary Jane and the 2nd and 3rd generations have had and continue to have on the lives of seniors and our co-workers.
