Toni’s Life Full of Fun, Friendship and Family at Ecumenical Retirement Community

Toni Weakley’s social calendar is fuller than ever before with all of the activities and outings she plans for herself.  She has been a resident at Ecumenical Retirement Community for three years but has always called Harrisburg, Pa. home. It is where she raised her sons and worked as a teacher. Now, her sons live in the Pittsburgh-area, but when it came time to look at retirement living options, Ecumenical was a perfect fit.

“I like it because it gives my children peace of mind, and they know that I’m happy and well cared for and have a lot of friends. I feel like the staff are my friends too – they are wonderful.”

Her best friend at Ecumenical is Judy. Toni was Judy’s Ambassador, a current resident paired with new move-ins to help them feel welcome and comfortable.

“We were sitting at lunch shortly after she moved in. I asked how she was doing after her family dropped her off and if she was nervous,” explained Toni. “She answered, ‘Well, sort of…but then I met you.’”

“We are such good friends,” continued Toni. “We hit it off immediately, and we laugh every day, have a good time and share stories about our families.”

Toni’s sons love to come and spend the entire day with their mom and her friends – they even treat the residents to a special Happy Hour when they pay a visit.

“Some of the residents don’t live near their family and don’t get company,” said Toni. “My boys love to hang out here, they bring the grandkids – everyone loves it and even other residents love when they visit.”

Socialization and safety were the primary reasons Toni and her family started researching retirement communities. Toni finds that her days are full of fun and is grateful for the care and support she receives from the co-workers.

Toni is an Ambassador to new residents, member of the campus book club, participates in the “VIBE Tribe” fitness activities, goes on most of the shopping trips and stays connected to her friends who don’t live at Ecumenical—although she is always trying to get them to move in to be her neighbor!

“I tell my friends who don’t live here (yet) that you can do as little or as much as you want. You can go in your room, close the door and watch TV, you can go do all the activities they have. You don’t have to be lonely.”

In addition to all the friends she has, she also enjoys the company of her cat, Lucy. They can often be found outside on the walking path or sitting on the front porch greeting residents and visitors.

“I feel very blessed to be here, and I know my family does,” shared Toni. “I thank God every night that this is one of my biggest blessings.”

Toni would love to meet you and introduce her to her friends and favorite activities. To learn more about life at Ecumenical Retirement Community, contact an advisor to schedule a personalized visit.
